Researchers from Uzhhorod National University will work to preserve the ecosystem of Synevyr National Park as part of the HUSKROUA program

On Thursday, July 24, the Information Center at Uzhhorod National University hosted the kick-off conference for the project “Implementation of Monitoring of Wetlands of International Importance in the Carpathian Region” as part of the HUSKROUA program. The Media Center found out what the project will focus on, what role our university will play, and who else will be involved in its implementation.

The project aims to protect the ecosystems of the Synevyr National Nature Park (Ukraine), the Poloniny National Park headquartered in Stakčín (Slovakia), and the RNS Romsilva – Maramureșului Nature Park (Romania). To carry out the project’s key tasks, scientists from each country have joined the effort: from Ukraine—Uzhhorod National University, which is also the lead partner; from Slovakia—the University of Žilina, the Research Institute of High-Mountain Biology, and the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca; and from Romania.

The international team was welcomed by the project coordinator, Professor Natalia Kablak of the Department of Geodesy, Land Management, and Geoinformatics. Representatives of the Transcarpathian Regional Council and the regional military administration also attended the opening.

The project is co-financed by the INTERREG VI-A NEXT Program “Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine” 2021–2027. The total budget is €1,005,964.14. Of this amount, the EU grant for UzhNU amounts to €182,476, while the university’s co-financing share is €20,275.12.

The project will last 24 months and is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2027.
